BAI Security Customers Not Affected by Slammer Worm
The SQL Slammer Worm affected operations at more than half
of U.S. companies last week, causing network bottlenecks in nearly nine out of
ten infected companies, according to an Information Security Magazine reader
survey of nearly 1,800 business and government agencies.
So how did BAI Security customers make out during the
outbreak?
According to Michael Bruck, President and Founder of BAI
Security, “Our Managed Security Clients were unaffected in any direct manner by
the Slammer Worm, because BAI Security has been actively monitoring for the
vulnerability since it was discovered in early 2002.” BAI Security has seen and
blocked a significant number of the external attacks, but no infections have
been reported on internal production systems. Some clients did report a slow
down to particular external internet sites, which was common for many internet
users.
Mr. Bruck added, “This is a great example of how our firm
elevates the security posture of any size business to that of the most
sophisticated environments. The monitoring systems in our operations center
were already detecting and actively blocking the first threats in Asia well
before it was news in the US and abroad. We were able to fend off the attacks
in the Far East and at the same time provide early warning to our remaining
client locations worldwide.”
It’s not hard to see why The Gartner Group is predicting
that 60% of Enterprises will outsource security monitoring by 2005. The BAI
Security turnkey solution includes: software, hardware, maintenance, support,
monitoring, automatic response, and reporting; all for as little as half the
cost of a typical network support person.
